FREQUENCY OF DIABETES MELLITUS TYPE 2 AND OBESITY IN THE TOWN OF COROICO, LA PAZ CITY MANAGEMENT 2014

In Latin America there is a high prevalence of Diabetes Mellitus, especially in the population over 20 years old, where about 8% and 10% is represented by the Diabetes Mellitus type 2, this is why a prostpective, analytical and crossed research was conducted under the project "Clinical and epidemiological characteristics of Diabetes in Coroico, 2014" with the objective of determining the prevalence and correlation of Diabetes Mellitus Type 2 and obesity in people of the community of Coroico , La Paz.
Body Mass Index and fasting and postprandial glycemia was evaluated. The results of a population of 404 individuals; 208 were women and 196 men. The overall prevalence of obesity was 17.32% individuals over 40 years of age. The prevalence of diabetes mellitus was 4.2%, both to female preponderance.
These results indicate that there is a line similar to the Latin American base correlation of anthropometric values that increase the risk of developing more complex syndromes such as metabolic syndrome behavior.
