Anal incontinence is the inability to defer the act of evacuation, preventing voluntary control of rectal emptying and causing the involuntary discharge of fecal matter and gases. Anal sphincter injury is recognized as the most common cause of anal incontinence in healthy women. Multiple factors are related to the pathology such as obstetric, traumatic, surgical, nerve injury, spinal cord injury, mental disorders and changes in the consistency of fecal matter.
On this occasion we present the case of a 37-year-old patient who was treated at the Hospital Obrero Numero 2, Caja Nacional de Salud in Cochabamba Bolivia, who had anal incontinence for 12 years without being able to retain feces or gases, later to a trauma of the internal and external anal sphincter which occurred after a complicated labor.
