PREVALENCE OF ACTINIC CHEILITIS IN PATIENTS OF DENTAL CLINIC AT DENTISTRY DEPARTMENT OF UNIVERSIDAD PRIVADA DEL VALLE, LA PAZ, PERIOD II / 2012

The lips anatomically offer three regions: the mucosa, the semimucosa and the skin region. The semimucosa, red zone or lips vermilion histologically presents a parakeratinization and lacks the presence of salivary glands. lt is in this buffer between the skin and mucous this study has its origins.
An experimental, cross-sectional study was performed in patients of the dental clinic at the Universidad Privada del Valle in La Paz, in the period 11/2012, with the aim of determining the prevalence of actinic or solar cheilitis. This is a premalignant condition, which affects the lips vermilion usually at the bottom.
As incisional biopsy of 10 Iower lip samples was taken from 20-23 years old patients and histologically analyzed to obtain a definitive diagnosis. lt is concluded that the actinic cheilitis has a prevalence of 70%, the remaining 20% are Other changes as discrete edema or chronic irritative cheilitis smoking and 10% did not show any pathology (control group). The prevalence of actinic cheilitis is caused by solar radiation and height in people living in La Paz city, especially in males, 83%, the remaining 17% are other alterations.
