Sternum fractures are uncommon, because very few cases reported in the medical literature, raising great interest to know the correct behavior to be followed in these cases, morbidity and mortality are directly related to the severity of injuries organic and not specifically associated with the fracture.
The case of a patient with a complete, oblique and displaced fracture of the sternum at the level of the middle third, associated with bilateral pleural effusion and T4 to T3 vertebral fracture secondary to a high-energy car accident aground IO meters this highlights the importance of multidisciplinary approach for the first evaluation before a definitive surgical intervention and the technical aspects of it.
