Odontomas are considered to be benign, mixed, asymptomatic and slow-growing tumors. An odontoma is a hamartomatous lesion of odontogenic origin formed by epithelial and mesenchymal cells. According to the WHO classification 2022 odontomas are Mixed Benign Tumors, there are 2 types of odontomas, compound odontoma and complex odontoma.
The etiology of this lesion is unknown but it is associated with trauma during primary dentition, genetic mutations and heredity.
Two types of odontomas are known; composite odontoma and complex odontoma, both are usually found by radiographic studies.
The present clinical case was carried out in the UNIVALLE Dental Clinic in La Paz - Bolivia, with a surgical procedure, reporting a clinical case, a 15 year old male patient with absence of piece 1.2, complementary studies were carried out such as radiographs and tomographies prior to surgical treatment, the imaging examination showed a radiopaque mass coinciding with an image of compound odontoma, given the correct diagnosis, surgical treatment was planned with local anesthesia for the exeresis of the odontoma.
