At the Universidad Privada del Valle, during the Human Anatomy course and the cadaveric dissection process, we performed a sagittal section of the head and neck with the aim of studying the nasal cavities, pharynx and larynx. We were struck by the notable thickening of the uvula, palate and epiglottis, which significantly reduced the diameter of the buccopharynx and laryngopharynx. This led us to consider the presence of laryngeal edema, so we decided to perform a histopathological study which indicates compatibility with chronic laryngitis.
Chronic laryngitis, which can be the result of infections, allergic reactions or trauma, manifests itself as a thickening of the tissues, which can compromise the airways. This finding highlights the importance of research in laryngeal anatomy and pathophysiology, as it provides crucial data for the diagnosis and treatment of respiratory conditions.
