Abstract

The new coronavirus is an infectious disease caused by the SARS-COV-2, which has negative complications. Among the most frequent is the acute distress syndrome, which presents a mild hypoxemia that leads to intubation. That is why research was carried out on the application of the spirometer, and thus decrease the post-extubation effect and improve lung compliance, which is the most common effect after extubation in post-COVID-19 patients. By applying the spirometer, at least according to literature, an optimal result is demonstrated, increasing lung capacity and reducing long-term sequelae.

The reeducation of ventilator mechanics with the use of the spirometer is described and proposed, as it is an instrument that enhances collateral ventilation, which manages to reduce adverse effects after extubation, such as: prolonged dyspnea, mild hypoxia and structural complications in the lung parenchyma in post-COVID-19 patients, reducing long-term sequelae.
