Taking into account the continuous influx of patients attending to the Dental Clinic Univalle Cochabamba in order to receive dental care of the main pathologies of the mouth, such as gum disease and tooth decay primarily; a retrospective and quantitative research was accomplished in order to determine the rate of decayed, missing and filled teeth, separating patients by sex and age, 2010 during the administration, a total of 999 patients was performed.
lt was evident that the Decayed, Missing and Sealed Teeth Rate of patients seen in Univalle was 16.6, being much above from the W.H.O. reference ranges, which considers 4.5 to 6.5 as high.
Considering these values, programs should be built and budget designated for education and prevention campaigns through brigades organized by final year students, accompanied by teachers, who can be mobilized to schools and educate parents and teachers to impart knowledge about the importance of oral health education and prevention.
