The femoral Salter-Harris fracture is a loss of normal relations between the epiphysis and metaphysis cap of the femur in its proximal end, and is considered a secondary process to an alteration of the growth plate.
The proximal femoral epiphyseal slip is a disease of puberty whose etiology is attributed to hormonal disorders, vascular, metabolic, endocrine, traumatic, and Other disorders. Of these are considered the most important traumatic factors and hormones. This disorder begins during adolescence in the period of maximum skeletal growth: 13-15 years for males and 11-13 years for women.
The purpose, using the epiphysis locking, is to accelerate the closure of the growth plate, it must be simple and cause minimal trauma, being careful of not to pierce the cartilage to prevent complications such as severe chondrolysis.
The aim of this work is to demonstrate that the technique of in situ locking is a safe, simple, effective and suitable in solving the proximal femoral epiphysis slip in our procedure.
12 patients who attended the outpatient clinic at Emergency Service at Orthopedics Harry Williams Hospital, in the period from January 1998 to December 2001 were captured and had proximal femoral epiphyseal slip.
