Urinary tract infection is a common bacterial infection often goes for underreporting, which makes it difficult to recognize the true incidence in time, therefore a clinical diagnosis and confirmatory positive urine culture is required. Recently, reports were observed related to the resistance of Escherichia coli to ciprofloxacin growth, so this study aims to determine the behavior of the same in our environment.
The work was performed at the Virgen de Copacabana Hospital. The study was retrospective and descriptive. The main results are translated into a gradual increase of positive urine cultures for ciprofloxacin-resistant coli. 314 urine cultures were analyzed in total, of which 151 reports showed resistance to ciprofloxacin.
Increased frequency of urine cultures with coli resistant to ciprofloxacin is checked over time, identifying the responsibility of the antibiotic as an essential use for therapeutic success.
