Burns have different effects on the human body such as: cell destruction; hypovolemic shock; and inflammatory response, among others. Infants are more susceptible to this type of accidents; for this reason, the main objective of this research was to determine the values of albumin in samples derived from burned children from 3 months to 10 years from Viedma Hospital to Bioniza Laboratory in the period from January to July, 2015.
A retrospective, descriptive and correlational quantitative study was held. The sample was composed of 125 burned children. lt was found that 70% of these children were less than 4 years old. 23% albumin showed values ranging from 1,9 to 3 g/dl. When albumin levels and the percentage of body burn were related, it was found that 74% of children with a value ranging from 1,9 to 3 g/dl, showed a body burn 5 to 40%; likewise, 92% of burned children showed an albumin value between 3,1 to 5 g/dl. 51% of children between 3 months and 2 years old showed a hemoglobin value of 2,8 to 11,3 g/dl.
By relating the values of albumin with the hemoglobin level, it was shown that 47% of children with an albumin level of 1,9 to 3 g/dl showed hemoglobin values from 2,8 to 11,3 g/dl. In contrast, 53% of children with these same values of albumin showed hemoglobin values between 11 ,6 to 17,7 g/dl.
