La medicina legal, por excelencia, es una ciencia basada en evidencias, ya que sólo admite como verdad aquello que es evidenciable, probado y ordenado, haciendo posible entender cómo funcionan los procesos biológicos, físicos, químicos o patológicos del ser humano, desde su estado embriológico hasta su muerte y como éstos a su vez se convierten en una evidencia que permite otorgar un criterio técnico y científico al Ministerio de Justicia, Poder Judicial y abogados para el ejercicio de sus funciones. De esa manera se convierte en un vínculo entre la medicina y el derecho.
