Abstract

The correct working length determination of the root canals allows endodontic treatment to be carried out within the appropriate limits. To establish it, the Ingle radiographic technique has been traditionally used, which in some cases does not provide the exact location of the apical constriction, while the apical locator allows to stablish the length of the root canals more accurately.
A prospective, descriptive and longitudinal investigation was carried out with the objective of determining the reliability of the apical locators and the radiographic technique of Ingle in uniradicular endodontics in patients at the Univalle Dental Clinic 2017-2018. The population were 50 teeth; check sheets and endodontic clinical records were filled out; data were transcribed in Excel and tabulated in the SPSS v.18 statistical package.

The results obtained objectively evidence that the Ingle radiographic technique with 40% accuracy should not be used in isolation to determine the working length of the root canals, this should be complemented with the use of an apical locator, such as Propex Pixi, which recorded a 64% accuracy, proving to be the most reliable because its use speeds up endodontic treatment and reduces the number of radiation exposures of the patient.
