Abstract

Root cysts are cyst with odontogenic epithelial origin and occur because of inflammatory causes, as a result of pulp necrosis. They represent approximately 60% of all odontogenic cysts. Decompression is a technique for large sized jaws cystic lesions, consisting of creating a connection between the cyst and the oral cavity by anchoring a tube or stent for continuous drainage and washing.

A clinical case of a 24 year old male patient with a large sized root cyst in the upper maxilla with several years of evolution is shown. A combined treatment was performed, using the decompressive technique for 9 months followed by extraction along with guided bone regeneration.
