Abstract

Legal medicine, par excellence, is an evidence-based science, since it only accepts as truth that which is demonstrable, proven, and systematically organized. This makes it possible to understand how the biological, physical, chemical, and pathological processes of human beings function, from their embryonic state to death, and how these, in turn, become evidence that provides a technical and scientific basis for the Ministry of Justice, the Judiciary, and lawyers in the exercise of their functions. In this way, it becomes a link between medicine and law. Legal medicine, according to the definition in the medical dictionary, is the branch of medicine that carries out the theoretical and practical study of the medical and biological knowledge necessary for the resolution of legal and administrative problems. "It is the body of medical knowledge that serves to enlighten judges and, in general, jurists in the resolution of those legal cases where it is necessary for a correct assessment of the facts."
