Soil is the foundation of food security, but also the cornerstone of biological health on Earth, healthy soil is a prerequisite for healthy living. The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Natural Resources Conservation Service defines soil health as the continued ability of soil to serve as an important biological ecosystem for the sustenance of plants, animals, and humans.
