PATHOLOGICAL PULPAL TREATMENT IN PATIENTS ATTENDING UNIVALLE DENTAL CLINIC COCHABAMBA, 2009 - 2010

When the tooth has been attacked either by physical, chemical or traumatic injury involving dentine-pulp complex, before considering extraction, we could choose the last alternative conservative as endodontics.
This was a retrospective, descriptive and longitudinal study, in order to determine the incidence of pulp diseases treatments in patients who consulted the Dental Clinic Univalle Cochabamba, 20092010. The universe consisted of 280 patient records indicating endodontic treatment, served in the Endodontics during 2009 - 2010. The sample was obtained by simple random method and consisted of 100 medical records; 50 corresponding 2009, and 50 corresponding 2010.
Pulp pathology showed the following frequency: Necrosis pulp 47%, with the highest incidence for females with 29%; chronic pulpitis 31%, affecting more males 13%; and acute pulpitis 22%, more condition in males with 19%. In relation to age, the highest percentage of pulp alterations corresponded to the age group between 8 and 24 years with 58%; and the lowest percentage to the group over 56 years with 8% involvement. According to the most affected tooth, the right and left central incisors showed 11% and 10% respectively affectation.
Root canal system treatments performed are summarized in 47% of Necropulpectomies l, Biopulpectomies 31% and 22% of Necropulpectomies ll. The most common pulp treatment was the necropulpectomy l, being the most vulnerable group of young patients between 8-24 years Old.
