Hiatal hernia is a frequent complication of the digestive tract, as it is rare and can be diagnosed intraoperatively, especially when the stomach is involved in the condition, which is the one found in the thoracic cavity. (1) (2)
Hiatal hernias were described by Henry Bowdith who went on to publish about this complication between 1610 and 1846 for the first time. (3)The definition of hiatal hernia falls into what is "The protrusion or prolapse of the proximal stomach or any non-esophageal structure through the esophageal hiatus" which can become paraesophageal or slipped. (1) The classic symptomatology incurs dysphagia and symptoms similar to gastroesophageal reflux, in some patients it can become asymptomatic. (2) (3)
The present case is an exceptional case that presents in this complication with a secondary problem as it has an acute abdomen due to exacerbated cholecystolithiasis and a secondary gastric perforation.
Key words: Hiatal hernia, Gastric perforation, Acute abdomen, Fundoplication,
