Pont rate, Transversal malocclusionAbstract
In the diagnosis of the problems of transversal malocclusion, several rates determine the ideal size of the maxilla; the most used is the Pont rate. In this research, this rate was evaluated to determine its effectiveness in Nayarit, Mexico. The research was descriptive, non-experimental and crossed. The study universe models were taken in the same cabinet diagnosis of maxillofacial patients seen in the Specialty of Orthodontics, Academic Unit of Dentistry, at the Autonomous University of Nayarit from 2000 to 2012. The sample size was 125 study models, which was estimated with a level of significance of 95% and an error of 5%. Pont analysis was applied to the sample, and the results of the rate were compared using Student T test with the actual values of the population where the research was conducted. Statistically significant differences were obtained in the transverse distances of study models of the sample and the proposed by Pont.
