Abstract

Grape is the name given to the fruit that grows forming bunches of the common European vine. lt belongs to the genus Vitis of the family Vitaceae, which includes about 600 species of shrubs; creepers usually produce fruit in berry, typical of warm and tropical countries. Within this genus, 20 species grown for their fruits and some for their leaves are eaten as any vegetable are included.

According to studies by the Center for Scientific and Technological Research of Extremadura (CICYTEX in Spanish), show that grape seed extract has high antioxidant activity and beneficial to health, antimicrobial properties since collaborate in the prevention of chronic diseases associated with aging, oxidative stress and cancer.

This article is the result of an investigation in classroom by a multidisciplinary team of teachers and students in the subjects of Applied Computing and Botany. Its aim is to describe the medicinal properties of grape seed (Vitis vinifera) and encourage its use for the prevention of difierent diseases.
