Effect of two colutors in the treatment of local halitosis in patients attending at Universidad Privada del Valle Odontological Clinic during 2075

Abstract

Halitosis is a problem that is affecting increasingly people in the world, which causes introversion and personal isolation of those who suffer making their daily life more complicated, affecting not only their work environment but also their family life. A prospective, cross-sectional, and experimental study was carried out to determine the effect of different mouthwashes in the treatment of local halitosis in patients from the Universidad Privada del Valle Dental Clinic 2075. Data collection was performed on 50 patients who presented halitosis whose cause is of local origin, which were divided in two groups of25 people: the first group used the chlorhexidine mouthrinse 0.12 % and the second with cetylpyridinium chloride for the period of 1 week, performing mouth rinses 3 times a day, where the brushing technique was reinforced by leaching the bass technique using a study model.

In the results it was found that chlorhexidine is more effective in the treatment oforal halitosis by its substantivity. The use ofchlorhexidine was the most effective, leaving a greaterpercentage ofpatients with a degree ofimperceptible halitosis, especially in the age group of26 to 50 years that was the most affected group. Cetylpyridinium chloride was less effective in patients who had mild or even severe halitosis.
