Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection is one of the fastest-growing pathologies of the human growth today. Descriptive cross-cutting research work was carried out, with quantitative variables, with the aim of determining the level of knowledge about HIV/AIDS of the urban population of Cochabamba, Bolivia. A survey was conducted that took seven variables to verify the level of knowledge of H IV/AIDS amongthe popu lation. The results were: 55% were female. 100% of participants said the main transmission mechanism is blood and sexual fluids. 35,3% were unaware ofthe lack of a cure for the disease. Stigmatization against infected patients occurred by 7,1%. 94,1% of participants chose barrier methods, such as mechanisms to prevent infection. lt is concluded that the level of knowledge of the urban population of Cochabamba was satisfactory, however, there are points that must be reinforced by educating the population to strengthen the prevention of HIV infection.
