Abstract

The influence on friction of three types of random toothpastes was compared: one pediatric, one adult and the prophylactic, on the slot-wire interface (brace slot). A friction system with zero slot braces and a 0,019 x 0,025 [in] inch wire was made. The data found was validated using the student's "t" test. The results show that prophylactic paste for dental use significantly increases friction 381,22 × 10-3 [N] Newtons, and the adult paste increases friction twice than the pediatric paste; 43,01 x 10-3 [N]. In  conclusion, pediatric paste is the one that least affects friction.
