Forging a Strategic Partnership to Advance Science Communication and Culture
Date: January 30, 2026
The Department of Science and Technology Studies (STS) of the Andean Road Countries for Science and Technology and the Journal of Latin American Sciences and Culture (JLASC) are pleased to announce a formal cooperation agreement. This strategic partnership is established to promote critical scholarship and public engagement in Science and Technology Studies by integrating STS perspectives into mainstream scientific discourse and fostering a more reflexive, inclusive scientific culture.
To directly advance this mission, our partnership will launch a joint initiative to strengthen the infrastructure of scholarly communication within the field. We are excited to announce a Call for Applications for the following key roles within a dedicated new section of JLASC:
-
Section Editor for Science Communication in STS: A senior scholar to guide the strategic direction, oversee peer review, and curate content for a new section focused on the theories, practices, and impacts of science communication from an STS perspective.
-
Assistant Editors (2-3 positions): Early-career researchers or practitioners to support the editorial process, manage submissions, and contribute to the section's development and outreach.
This initiative seeks to create a vital platform for work that examines how science is communicated, understood, and contested in society—a core pillar of the broader "science culture construction" paradigm. We aim to bridge the analytic depth of STS with the public-facing imperative of science communication, thereby enriching both fields.
By combining the scholarly network and disciplinary expertise of the STS Department with the international publishing platform and reach of JLASC, we commit to building a vibrant community of practice dedicated to reflective and transformative science communication.
Application details, full role descriptions, and deadlines for the Section Editor and Assistant Editor positions will be published on the official JLASC website and circulated through our networks in the coming weeks.
We invite our communities to join us in this endeavor to shape the future of science communication and culture.
