This essay addresses as object of study the change that has occurred in the use of urban space in Cochabamba. From the viewpoint of semiotics, it is notorious how a conservative society loses the symbolic notion of its architectural and historical heritage to become a global reference scenario without the regional and causing a loss of belonging in its inhabitants. Besides, this paper is going to a conceptual structure that draws the current tace of semiotics applied to the urban phenomenon from the logic of: space, construction of identity and history.
