This document is a literature review on BlockChain platforms and their applications. It first covers fundamentals of the technology, starting with the explanation of the hash function, the content of a block, consensus methods, the scalability trilemma and the classification of blockchains according to access, granted privileges and development layer. Afterwards, smart contracts and oracles are explained, before developing different development platforms and the different programming languages used. Finally, the applications of BlockChain in different sectors of the economy and the ventures that emerged in Bolivia are detailed.
