RESUMEN:
La incontinencia anal es la incapacidad de diferir el acto evacuatorio impidiendo el control
voluntario del vaciado rectal y provocando la salida involuntaria de materia fecal y gases; la lesión
del esfínter anal de origen obstétrico es reconocida como la causa más común de incontinencia anal
en mujeres sanas; además otros múltiples factores se encuentran relacionados con la patología como
ser: traumáticos o quirúrgicos, lesión nerviosa, injuria medular, trastornos mentales y alteraciones
en la consistencia de la materia fecal. Presentamos el caso de una paciente de 37 años de edad, que
fue atendida en el Hospital Obrero Nro. 2 de la Caja Nacional de Salud Cochabamba, Bolivia, quien
hace 12 años cursó con un trabajo de parto complicado causando lesión de los esfínteres anales tanto
interno como externo siendo este suceso la causa de una incontinencia fecal, con la que la paciente
tuvo que lidiar desde entonces sin lograr retener heces ni gases, afectando su calidad de vida. Como
tratamiento se optó por abordaje quirúrgico en dos ocasiones siendo la segunda intervención la

ABSTRACT:
Anal incontinence is the inability to defer the evacuatory act, preventing voluntary control of rectal
emptying and causing the involuntary discharge of fecal matter and gases; anal sphincter injury of
obstetric origin is recognized as the most common cause of anal incontinence in healthy women; In
nerve injury, spinal cord injury, mental disorders, and changes in the consistency of fecal matter. We
present the case of a 37-year-old patient who was treated at the Hospital Obrero No. 2 of the National
